Acts needed to play gigs
in Gap stores Gap
is hosting the world's largest ever simultaneous live
acoustic music event in over 700 stores across the US and
Canada. The events will be attended by up to 30,000 Gap
employees and 300,000 guests, and will also be open to the
public.
Acts chosen to play at the
events will be able to raise their profile, sell CDs at
the gigs, and will have the chance of winning a recording
session with famed producer John Alagia,
who has sold millions of records with artists such as Dave Matthews Band, Emmylou Harris, David Gray, Ben Folds Five, O.A.R., Edwin McCain, Vertical Horizon, Jason Mraz, Unwritten Law and Grammy winner John Mayer.
Acts will also receive free premium jeans from a new range
launching in August, and the chance to win a Gap wardrobe.
To be considered your act
must have no more than four people, and you must be
available to play an unplugged acoustic set in your local
Gap store on August 20 (no explicit lyrics). You will need
to bring your own gear and make your own travel
arrangements.

CDR club
nights break out of London
CDR – which is already a
successful club night around the world and
established in London –
is now breaking out of the capital with pilots across the
East Midlands, with dates in Nottingham, Derby, and
Leicester.
The nights include
city-based DJs playing sets of their own and other
people's music, but artists can also turn up on the night
with their own CDRs to have them played (hence the name).
Tracks can be of any genre,
provided the music has been made digitally.

Radiohead
manager and MAMA launch new label
Radiohead's manager, Brian
Message, has joined forces with artist management firm,
MAMA Group, to create a new record label called
"Polyphonic".
Full details of the label
and its policies have yet to be released, but there is
speculation that it may employ similar release plans to
Radiohead's 2007 album "In Rainbows", which
could be downloaded for a price chosen by the customer.
The label is certainly
expected to concentrate on digital music delivery, and
will allow artists to retain their copyright. Adam
Driscoll, the co-chief executive of MAMA Group, suggested
that the label will probably offer new artists a 50/50
split, though established artists can expect a bigger
share.
"We will do whatever
is most effective to get an artist noticed," stated
Driscoll. "Giving an album away for free may get one
million people listening to a new artist."
The label will launch with
$20 million of funding, provided by MAMA Group.
